TOP 5 DE CANCIONES DE MEN AT WORK [ESP/ENG]
¡Hey!
I'm back again with a top five of good songs, but this time from a band from the 80's that I really like and that reminds me a lot of the roadtrips I used to do with my dad, since these songs were on the playlist.
Men At Work is an Australian pop rock and reggae/rock fusion band with pretty upbeat and vibrant tunes that I've been listening to for as long as I can remember as it was always included in my dad's repertoire. Listening to this band puts me in a super good mood and I just want to sing at the top of my lungs, so I wanted to share with you my favorite songs so you can get to know them or enjoy them again:
1. OVERKILL
I think this one is my favorite and although in my opinion it speaks of a feeling similar to anxiety or some kind of remorse, it makes me feel joyful because it has quite catchy rhythms and it seems to me that they use a clarinet that creates all the magic in the song.
2. WHO CAN IT BE NOW?
This song starts with a vibrant saxophone, which throughout the song seems to chorus the vocalist every time he asks "who can it be now?" This type of wind instruments are very characteristic in this band even though they are unusual within the genre with which they identify themselves, but I think it is precisely what I like the most about their songs.
Now with respect to the lyrics, this song has a somewhat comical meaning because, although it seems that the speaker is a schizophrenic, it is actually Hay the vocalist who wrote this hit inspired by his most chilling experiences living in one of the most dangerous areas of Melbourne, where police sirens were heard at all hours and also confused the door of his apartment (late at night) with the door of a dealer who had as a neighbor.
3. IT'S A MISTAKE
This is a protest song against war issues since at that time people were living with the uncertainty caused by the cold war. But as always Men at Work took a very serious topic and instead of turning it into a ballad or singing a sad song, they turned it into another set of catchy rhythms and created a video with the humor that characterizes them.
4. DOWN UNDER
In this song Greg Ham, the multifunctional musician, member of the band, delights us with the joyful sound of a flute and Hay sings a nostalgic lyric that alludes to the Australian feeling and how this country was losing little by little the spirit that characterized it.
This song was also involved in a controversy because Men at Work was accused and even sued for plagiarism in relation to the flute melody I mentioned at the beginning. This was highly questioned and caused severe depression for Greg Ham, who did not want to be remembered for "plagiarism".
5. STILL LIFE
This song doesn't have as happy melodies as the previous ones, but it's still one of my favorites and I think it has deep lyrics that talk about infidelity? Or so I understand it.
Well guys, this is my top. I hope you liked it a lot, that you had fun with the songs of Men at Work and you can give me your opinion about the band or tell me if you have listened to them before.
