My Mind Playin Tricks on Me is a song about paranoia. The object of the song is a gangster who is stalked by memories of the past. He thinks that people he has done dirty in the past are behind every shadow ready to pounce.

The subject of the song does not express regret for his crimes, and rather is upset he may have to own up to them. If you commit a crime, you must pay the price, and the gangster in the song isnwary and understands this. He makes no attempt to make amends, but knows he will face street justice.
