Three Tune Tuesday - Songs in the key of song and Dance
It's Tuesday and time for another three tunes. Songs that get you moving are always cool. Giving physicality to music ads another layer to the whole experience. I am not on TicToc but I do know that that is one of its main first fads as people film themselves do so dance moves to up their social score. In my day I also liked to dance but more in a tribal way at some late-night artists' party. There was never any choreography just half sozzled idiots throwing shapes on the dance floor. I always appreciated how a move of a ballet dancer is so elegant or how a Charleston shuffle can be epileptic yet ecstatic.
The skill of dancers as an art form of expression has always intigued me. With todays selection I've got some choice music and some choice moves to go along with them.
First up on he dance floor
Sia - The greatest
I like this Australians image as well as her music. For a long time, all I saw was the wig, and never knew what she looked like. She didn't want her face to become her calling card. Being able to do your shopping in Lidl without people recognising you can be nice.
She has given this mini-me dancer the heavy lifting in this regard. She has appeared in several of her videos and what an amazing dancer she is. Very expressive. All the children are amazing but her confidence is ... The Greatest. It reminds me of something out of Mad Max.
Her music reminds me of Tribal Anthems mixed with dystopian futurism™
The Chemical Brothers - Wide open
The Chemical Brothers always have an interesting sound and with this track Featuring Beck it creates a very different movement than Sias. The video is beautifully performed by Sonoya Mizuno and some Nerds at their computers pressing buttons. I Love how subtle the special effect becomes and you can just enjoy the emotional dance.
Below is the making of, for the nerds in my audience.
Lindy hop scene from Hellzapoppin
I remember hearing these amazing musicians strike up this Jazzy swing tune in the 1941 movie Hellzapoppin and it drew my attention to the screen. Then the dancing began. Wow,. These guys are amazing. The Choreography is so tight that with one false move, someone could have landed in hospital. Its fast and furious, sometimes even seemingly aggressive. It was only when I looked for it for this post and I found this version that I had a double take. I remembered it being in black and white but here we are in full colour. Someone has colourized it. I suppose this is one of the useful uses of AI. It can make things seem more present-day. I still like the black and white version but this version makes me think, have I seen anything like this lately?
Even if Sia coughs, I’d listen
I love her so much😂
I love her sound too and the fact I would probably pass her on the street without knowing.
