Three Tune Tuesday - Songs in the key of one take wonder videos

It seems that last week's post from me flew under the radar. In that one about music with horns, I mentioned OK Go and how I like their videos but not so much their music. Well, that got me thinking. There is this song by Buggles called Video Killed The Radio Star and it is about how the advent of Music videos changed the game when it came to music. It may not be that the videos become a bigger part of the artist's success than the music but that it has become an integral part.

It is always nice to have another layer to the music giving it visuals and seeing what the director interpreted the music as. It has become its own whole little art form. A thread that binds these songs together is that their videos all appear to be one take.

Kylie Minogue - Come into my mind

This is a catchy song by Charlene from Neighbours. It has a nice beat to it and the performance is very competent but for me, the video is where it is at. Directed by one of my favourite directors, Michel Goundry. You may know him from Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. I love his playful style and how all his videos are like one-take wonders

His videos are like theatre with everything coming together with precision from all the cast and crew.

I won't say much about this video but I am sure you will watch it again and again to catch everything that is going on.

The Spice Girls - Wannabe

As girl bands go the Spice Girls was probably the best. They had a character for every taste. I won't say I was a big fan but I did appreciate how catchy all their tunes were and how they held the tabloid media captive with their shenanigans.

This was their first song and what a plash it made. I remember the video well as I marveled at the fact it was one take and moving so much even from outside to inside. It looks dated now but when it came out it was pretty special.

I just realised, Posh Spice doesn't sing. Mind blown.

Ok Go - One moment

I can't make a post about one take videos without talking again about OK Go. They seem to have positioned themselves as the masters of the genre with each video trying to outdo the last with complexity and wow factor.

Again, the song is Meh! but, creating a video in 4.2 seconds is very impressive. Lots of electronic wizardry has gone into making this look so organic. I wonder how many takes were actually shot and who did the cleanup.

I generally love music videos for no other reason than it interests me to see what interpretation they have of their own music XD

Though I know plenty of people who hate visuals in both music and books because they're convinced that it's actively preventing people (or at least themselves and whoever's around them) from using their own powers of imagination and completely disregarding that it's allowing other people to excercise/extend theirs.

But then again I know a lot more who seem to hate music and books without accompanying visuals (though I guess they're technically just series/movies in the case of books XD) because they're too damn lazy to read (literally too lazy/the world's most pathetic attention span, I have some sympathy for people with dyslexia/that audio processing nonsense that I have etc).

I'm kinda feeling old now xD

I love it as an art form because there is a lot of freedom and it is interesting to see how the song is interpreted.

In my work as a sculptor, I usually hate being asked to make art about another person's art. But, I try to use it as just an inspiration to make something inspired by it and not to add icing to the cake that is already there.

Different things are best expressed in certain art forms and if I was a dancer I would probably have different things to say.

This opens a very philosophical discussion.

I recently saw this and maybe you will enjoy it. It's about the creative process.

It is very cool, alright. I can imagine it took months to plan and choreograph.
