Three Tune Tuesday - songs in the key of Irish woman
I had a theme in mind that I hoped to base the post on, to give it more depth but I just can't find the tunes and videos online to pull it together. So for today, I would like to give a sample of some wonderful female Irish performers to check out. As a small country, Ireland has produced some amazing crooners.
Each of these has formed the soundtrack to my early adulthood. I spent many a day listening to their warn out tapes on my Walkman on a continuous loop.
Columbus - Mary Black
Although this song was written by Noel Brazil I can't imagine anyone else trying to sing it than Mary. She has really made it her own.
'See how the cormorant swoops and dives' always brought a longing for the ocean to me. It is my favourite animal because of it being able to master both the air and the sea.
Mary's voice is so clear and rich that I feel like she is singing just to me. The music is so jazzy you really need to go with the flow.
Lisa Hannigan - Knots
A very different voice has our Lisa. It sounds like it is a little distant, making you lean in to listen.
I could have chosen many songs from her but I went with this one because the video is just so cute and fun.
Little red - Cathy Davey
Fun fact- I painted a ceiling in the Turkshead Irish bar many years ago with Cathy. She was just starting off her music career and I was just starting to get into sculpting. Both of us were trying to make ends meet by working for a paint effects company. We had some great chats and little did I know I was in the presence of greatness. We were both painting a ceiling but she was reaching for the stars. She told me she was a musician but I never got to hear her perform. It was only years later that I started to notice her soulful songs on the radio that the penny dropped.
I love her sound and image.
I will hopefully have a better-formatted collection for next week, with more of a theme. But hopefully, you have some new Irish music in this one to check out.

It's a few years since I was in the Turk's head but I remember the amazing painted ceiling. I wonder if it's the one you worked on.
This would have been back around the year 2000 so I am not sure. I haven't been there since those days. Not really one of my haunts. Come to think of it now, I haven't been out since the plague started.

Three delicious songs from three mighty strong and talented Irish women and three favorites of mine. We are spoilt really with the amount of home grown talent we have in this little country of ours.
Incredible talent. Think I will have to skip another week of TTT. I don't have time or the energy to sit and conjure a post, I have to stop working so hard. Brilliant initiative by the way.
I hear you man, I'm struggling now to keep my daily posting habit going
It means very early rises or late to bed, but will keep it going if I can. Work is nuts at the minute too, so little to no quality down time..
