Three Tune Tuesday - Songs in the key of Daði Freyr

I put my Three Tune Tuesday posts on pause for a while becasue my time has not been my own over these last few weeks but I have a few minutes today and wanted to share a musician I have been listening a lot to lately with my son and wife.

Usually in the evening around 8pm we do an unwinding time as we get our son ready for bed. All screens are off and either we play a game or listen to music.

I discovered Daði Freyr when he popped up on my youtube feed. Iceland had produced some amazing musicians over the years and Daði continues that tradition. It probably has to do with the long nights and days that they get to experience life to the fullest of extremes.

He has represented Iceland in the Eurovision and formed an impromptu band for the occasion with some of his friends. Artists, but not necessarily musicians. His wife also performs in the band.

I have really gone down a rabbit hole as I try to learn all about this nutty guy. His voice is so smooth and resonates with my skull giving me such a warm feeling. His music is catchy, heartfelt and he has some incredible dance moves that would make Prince, or Squiggle as he was later known envious.

Where we Wanna be

First up, a great example of writing catchy music about the mundane. It is about the lockdowns we all experienced a few years ago because of that thing the scientists cooked up in the lab. (I think it is acceptable to say this out loud now).

The video also shows some of his amazing dance moves. As a dad I approve!

10 years

Here is his entry to the 2021 Eurovision. With his band of misfits and a cool video to go with the experience. I love the retro feel and the homemade creativity. I have been working really hard with my son to learn the moves and can't wait to take it to the dance floor. Luckily in one of his videos he gives a tutorial.

Clear my head

This is my Favourite track by Daði. Cool to chill to. His voice is so smooth and those beats lift my soul. If I had one complaint about this song it would be that I want more. It somehow feels like he clears his head before I am done hearing him out.

Take a deep dive to the rest of his stuff, you won't be disappointed. A cult classic in the making.

I liked him immediately as well. Which, to be honest, worried me. Do you find that music you like immediately is music you get tired of quickly also? With Daði I hope not. I hope he becomes a prominent part of my music collection for years to come.

Honestly... I like him more than the music. He sells it really. As a personality.

He's an "artivist".

So nope. I don't think I'll get tired or bored of him. I enjoy what he is saying, how he is saying it and how he's putting himself out there. Big two thumbs up from me!

Also... you can't beat a sense of humour :D

It is nice to be back and I am already choosing tunes for next week. My son is really getting into music and I am listening along with him in the evenings. Some new and old stuff.
Thanks for the comment.

Love the monster and the wicked dance energy that zaps it. Did it come from that pesky but powerful volcano that brought air traffic to a halt a while back? Fun stuff!

I remember that Volcano and it was the only thing we had to worry about. fun times!
Daði music is fun stuff. I like the way he knits his voice into the tune. And, like all my favourite musicians he is not afraid of a bit of silence every now and again.

WARNING Serious Dad dance moves incoming!!

This guy is really cool and I really like his sound, totally new to me too, nice shout man, I'll be checking out more from Daði Freyr for sure, that first number is pure catchy. Your man the main singer reminds me of Brendan Gleeson's young fella..

I'm sure your kids will love it too. Especially the dance moves. His spud head definitely has the look of an Irish guy about it.
