Why Let Your Voice Be Tamed?
"Why are you hiding your potential in your shell? Why do you think you're not good enough?" I asked Ememobong my course mate who I knew had so many abilities but never wanna let it all out.
This happened about some years back in the University when I and Ememobong were very close, She would avoid any social activities in school, and to think that she's very beautiful, intelligent and smart makes me wonder why she thinks she's not even good enough.
My phone rang some minutes ago and it was Emem (for short) calling, while we talked, I teased her asking if she's still not letting her light shine and then I reminded her that this is 2024, a lamp cannot be lit and kept under a table.
The first thing she did was to send me pictures of her now enjoying the company of others, "Amie, I am a naturally shy person, but I think I becoming used to hanging out with many people now," she replied just immediately and I think it's a good start for her.
Emem has the sweetest voice and also has a very good writing skill but she just doesn't wanna let it out. We spoke at length and then I told her to try to bring out her potential and with time she will be surprised at how good she is.
This reminds me of a beautiful song from Emeli Sandé "Read about it".
This song is a very powerful song that reminds me to let it all out, I've got a voice as loud as a lion, so I do not need to tame it.
This is a reminder that you matter and I matter too and your voice should be heard regardless of your background, race or fears.
Our voice can still make a difference because we are all built uniquely, I was once a very shy person while growing up but today I am glad that I found my voice and made it loud and clear.
Whatever potential you have should never be tamed or limited and never let your passion die because you fear what others might think of you, one thing I believe is we miss out 100% on shots we refuse to take and the worst feeling in the world is the regret of not taking chances while we could, how would the world hear if you do not let it all out?
Let your let shine, never dim your light for no reason, because you matter!!

Love the positive message of this post. As I get older I realize that loving oneself is not a selfish act. If one can love oneself without being narcissist about it, then you end up empathizing with others too. If one is confident in their skin then they don't get paranoid about others.
In India there is a prayer in the soundtrack of the movie "Guddi", the first two lines of which go, and I quote,
"Humko man ki shakti dena, man vijay karein;
doosron ki jai se pehele khud ko jai karein"
The lyrics of this prayer translate to : "Give us the strength required, that our hearts might reign supreme; before we praise others around, we praise ourself"
Idea being doing activities such that you can be proud of yourself with justification.
Thanks for the post, you got me thinking along these lines. Timely considering the big post writing activity.
Happy that this popped up in my #dreemport curation sheet today!!! #dreemerforlife
Hello amazing dreemer, thank you for sharing your experience with me, I am so happy you enjoyed reading.
With time, I have also come to the realization that loving oneself is significantly important in order to love others genuinely. Unless you value yourself, you can't be happy and so you cannot give the world at the optimum level
Congratulations 🥳

This is thought provoking, I believe we all have different kind of personality which influences the way we do things, some people have low confidence in their capabilities despite being far better than others in their category, it is called low self-esteem or inferiority complex. The act of always feeling low in the presence of others.
I listed to the song and I was captivated by the lyrics, especially with tone of the piano in the background. The song therapeutic in nature.

This was a bit emotional for me,for a long time I didn’t even have confidence in myself and felt wasn’t good enough until I met one of my closest friends.
