Weird Gig in Church of Saint Benoit, Istanbul
Hello everyone, today I will tell you about a beautiful event that took place in a church in Istanbul in June 2023. I had the chance to watch and photograph four different scenes at the Catholic Church of Saint Benoit, which is considered the oldest church in Istanbul, in the Karaköy district of Istanbul.
The concert was organized by the underground music collective Noirgazer. Noirgazer organizes genre of dark/ambient/electronic stages music live shows in Istanbul. This was the third event I attended organized by the collective. I even attended another concert at All Saints Moda Church in Kadıköy. The scene that impressed me the most was undoubtedly Varteres Durise's scene. He's generally known for his high BPM techno songs, but it wouldn't be appropriate for a church, he played a soft atonal ambient set. Varteres Durise is his anonymous name, his real identity is not known to his audience, he comes on stage with a strange black mask. RAW present an audiovisual performance with the codes they wrote during the concert. Yes, they don't press the piano keys and play the guitar at the concert, they just write code :)
