Hive Music Festival Week152-Round2 @alexdepool27 cover: “On the sunny side of the street”

Hola amigos de la comunidad, qué alegría regresar una vez más al Hive Music Festival, en esta ocasión para la semana 152, ronda 2. Cada participación tiene un significado especial, pero esta vez lo es aún más porque no estoy solo: me acompaña un gran amigo con su saxofón, un instrumento que siempre logra darle un color distinto y muy expresivo a cualquier canción.

El tema que decidimos interpretar se titula “On the Sunny Side of the Street”, un clásico que transmite alegría, optimismo y una sensación de ligereza que me parece necesaria en estos tiempos. Desde que lo propusimos, supimos que sería una experiencia divertida, porque la combinación de la guitarra eléctrica con el saxo abre un abanico de posibilidades rítmicas y melódicas.

Mi intención al tocar fue mantener la calidez del tema original, pero aportándole algunos matices propios desde la guitarra. Al mismo tiempo, mi compañero en el saxo se encargó de envolver la interpretación con esas frases llenas de aire y swing que invitan a sonreír. Ambos nos dimos la libertad de improvisar, conversar musicalmente y jugar con los espacios, algo que nos mantuvo atentos y disfrutando cada segundo de la grabación.

Lo más bonito de este tipo de colaboraciones es que no solo se trata de tocar notas, sino de compartir momentos y energías. Sentí que realmente estábamos caminando “por el lado soleado de la calle”, dejando atrás cualquier sombra y dejando que la música hablara por nosotros.

Espero que esta versión les transmita la misma buena vibra que sentimos nosotros al interpretarla. Agradezco al festival por mantener vivo este espacio y a la comunidad por seguir apoyando la música hecha con cariño y dedicación.

Hello dear friends from the community, it’s a true pleasure to be back again for the Hive Music Festival, week 152, round 2. Every performance feels special in its own way, but this one is even more meaningful because I am not alone: I am joined by a great friend on the saxophone, an instrument that always adds such an expressive and colorful voice to any song.

The piece we chose is “On the Sunny Side of the Street”, a timeless classic filled with joy, optimism, and a sense of lightness that I believe is much needed nowadays. From the moment we suggested it, we knew it was going to be an exciting experience, since the combination of electric guitar and sax opens up so many rhythmic and melodic possibilities.

My goal on the guitar was to keep the warm spirit of the original tune while adding some personal touches and subtle variations. Meanwhile, my friend on sax carried the performance with those airy, swinging phrases that immediately invite a smile. We both gave ourselves the freedom to improvise, to exchange musical ideas, and to play with silence and space, which made the process dynamic and fun from start to finish.

What I enjoy most about collaborations like this is that it’s never just about playing notes; it’s about sharing energy and creating memories. At times I truly felt as if we were walking “on the sunny side of the street,” leaving behind every worry and letting the music speak on our behalf.

I sincerely hope this version brings you the same positive energy we felt while recording it. Thanks to the festival for keeping this amazing space alive and to the whole community for supporting music that comes straight from the heart.
