Hoy les comparto un cover muy especial que nace desde la memoria, la emoción y el respeto profundo por los grandes pilares de nuestra música. Se trata de Hoy como ayer, una joya interpretada originalmente por el gran Benny Moré, el Bárbaro del Ritmo. En esta ocasión, decidí asumir el reto de cantarlo, llevándolo a mi lenguaje sonoro con una propuesta acústico-eléctrica cargada de alma.

Este tema, tan impregnado de nostalgia y dulzura, conecta con la herencia afrodescendiente que me inspira día a día. Cada palabra, cada pausa y cada gesto melódico me llevó a ese universo de bolero con tintes de jazz y sentimiento cubano, donde la voz no es solo instrumento, sino también testimonio. Más que una versión, fue un acto de rendir tributo y seguir el hilo de la historia musical que nos trajo hasta aquí.

Musicalmente, trabajé en una atmósfera íntima que le diera espacio a la interpretación vocal, pero sin dejar a un lado la textura cálida de la guitarra. Opté por mantener el carácter romántico del original, pero con algunos matices contemporáneos, buscando ese equilibrio entre tradición y expresión propia. En la interpretación vocal intenté cuidar la intención emocional, sin imitar, pero sí honrando la esencia de Benny.

Este tipo de proyectos me permite seguir explorando la relación entre identidad, memoria y música. Me interesa no solo tocar y cantar, sino contar algo, establecer un puente con quienes escuchan y sienten que estas canciones siguen vivas, que nos hablan “hoy como ayer”.

Today I'm sharing a very special cover that comes from memory, emotion, and a deep respect for the great pillars of our music. It's Hoy como ayer, a gem originally performed by the great Benny Moré, the “Bárbaro del Ritmo.” This time, I took on the challenge of singing it, bringing it into my sonic language with an acoustic-electric arrangement full of soul.

This piece, so steeped in nostalgia and sweetness, connects deeply with the Afro-descendant heritage that inspires me every day. Each word, every pause, and every melodic gesture drew me into the world of bolero infused with jazz and Cuban sentiment, where the voice is not just an instrument but a testimony. More than a version, this was my way of paying tribute and continuing the thread of a musical history that brought us here.

Musically, I built an intimate atmosphere that would leave room for the vocal performance, without losing the warm texture of the guitar. I aimed to preserve the romantic character of the original while adding some contemporary nuances, searching for that balance between tradition and personal expression. In the vocals, I focused on delivering emotional intent—not imitating, but honoring Benny’s essence.

Projects like this allow me to keep exploring the bond between identity, memory, and music. I don’t just want to play and sing—I want to say something, to build a bridge with those who listen and feel that these songs are still alive, still speaking to us today just like yesterday.
