The Pop

Billie Eilish is the pop revolution, that's my definition of her as an artist. A child prodigy who from a very young age already stood out with her artistic skills in dancing and singing and fame quickly knocked on her door. Many times we only see the cover of a book and immediately judge, especially when it is about something pop or something mainstream, we do not see beyond what is in that artist... I personally have often thought that way, especially when I was much younger, just because it's something pop it's rubbish from the industry. Later, as I grew up, I understood things in a different way, and I realized the true potential of artists like Cristina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears herself... among many others, who are not just a face and an image, but they are genuinely talented. Another small example of this was when I discovered that the singer Nacho Mendoza of the Venezuelan duo Chino & Nacho, is clearly a rocker... that's right, and this gave me a lot to think about the origin of many musicians and what is revealed through of their work, which really makes me admire them like never before.

And well, this judging by the cover was not something that happened to me with Billie Eilish, since from the first time I heard her famous song "Bad Guy" I really liked it and I was immediately hooked, I heard it for the first time in a well-known national radio station from my country (Venezuela) and I was tuning in to that radio station for a while just to listen to that song that I didn't know what it was called or who sang it. One of the strangest songs I've ever heard, somewhat subliminal, dark and melodic, with practically spoken voices but with rhythm and melody wrapped in an aura of rebellion, which seemed enigmatically attractive to me.

So I wanted to do this "alternative metal" version guitarcover I would say...I wanted to do something cool and this is what came out. I had some mistimes with the click since I couldn't record it with a metronome and it was a little difficult to achieve a good balance of sound between the guitar and the voice, being an acoustic guitar and recording with an open microphone it's a little more difficult to control the decivels and parameters. I did the audio process as always in Adobe Audition, adding garage distortion through a tube amp simulator with a fuzz-like effect, and in the arrangement I used various effects such as phaser and chorus alternating their values. I added some filters to the video to give it that dark tone that goes with the song.

El Pop

Billie Eilish es la revolución del pop, esa es mi definición de ella como artista. Una niña prodigio que desde muy corta edad ya destacaba con sus dotes artísticos de bailes y de canto y que la fama tocó rápidamente su puerta. Muchas veces vemos solo la portada de un libro e inmediatamente juzgamos, sobretodo cuando se trata de algo pop o de algo mainstrain, no vemos mas allá de lo que hay en ese artista...yo personalmente muchas veces he pensado de esa forma sobretodo cuando estaba mucho mas joven, que solo por ser algo pop es basura de la industria. Luego al ir creciendo fui comprendiendo las cosas de una manera distinta, y me di cuenta el verdadero potencial que tienen artistas como Cristina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, la mismísima Britney Spears...entre muchos otros, que no son solo una cara y una imagen, sino que son genuinamente talentosos. Otro pequeño ejemplo de esto fue cuando descubrí que el cantante Nacho Mendoza del dúo venezolano Chino & Nacho, es rockero netamente...así es, y esto me dio mucho de que pensar sobre el origen de muchos músicos y lo que se traslucida a través de su trabajo, lo cual realmente me hace admirarlos como nunca antes.

Y pues esto de juzgar por la portada no fue algo que me pasó con Billie Eilish, ya que desde la primera vez que escuché su famosa canción "Bad Guy" me gustó muchísimo y quedé enganchado a ella de inmediato, la escuché por primera vez en una reconocida radio nacional de mi país (Venezuela) y estuve sintonizando esa radio por un tiempo solo para escuchar esa canción que no sabía ni como se llamaba ni quién la cantaba. Una de las canciónes mas raras que había escuchado, algo subliminal, oscura y melódica, con voces prácticamente habladas pero con ritmo y melodía envueltas en un aura de rebeldía, que me pareció algo enigmáticamente atractivo.

Así que quise hacer este guitarcover versión "metal alternativo" diría yo...quise hacer algo genial y esto fue lo que salió. Tuve algunos destiempos con el click ya que no pude grabarla con metrónomo y fué un poco difícil lograr un buen equilibrio de sonido entre la guitarra y la voz, al ser una guitarra acústica y grabar a micrófono abierto es un poco mas difícil controlar los deciveles y parámetros. El proceso del audio lo hice como siempre en Adobe Audition, agregando distorsión de garage a través de un simulador de amplificador de valvulas con un efecto parecido al fuzz, y en el arreglo utilice varios efectos como phaser y chorus alternando sus valores. Agregué algunos filtros al video para darle ese tono de oscuridad que va con la canción.
