Greetings, dear friends of Hive and #Music.

I hope you are doing well and having a happy weekend.

In this series of posts, which I decided to write when I realized that I couldn't cover in a single post the diverse music that accompanied my childhood, I wrote chapter 1 last week: Boleros. Today, it's time for chapter 2 and another genre that has influenced me since I was very young, Las Rancheras. The first thing I want to say is... Viva Mexico! for being the birthplace of such a genre that has impacted and continues to impact generations. I think I would be a completely different person without them in my life.

En esta serie de publicaciones que se me ocurrió hacer al darme cuenta de que no podría englobar en una sola, lo diversa que fue la música que acompañó mi infancia hice la semana pasada el capítulo 1: Boleros, hoy, toca el capítulo 2 y darle paso a otro género que me marcó desde muy pequeña, Las Rancheras, y lo primero que voy a decir es… viva México por ser cuna de semejante género que ha impactado y sigue impactando a las generaciones, creo que sería alguien completamente diferente sin ellas en mi vida.

La pregunta es seguro ¿Cómo? ¿Cómo llegó a tu vida? Y esta vez tengo que decir que aunque mis padres escuchaban artistas como Vicente Fernández, Antonio Aguilar, Paquita la del Barrio, Pedro Infante, Juan Gabriel, entre otros, creo que el principal detonante fue una novela jajaja.

Back in 2007 and 2008 in Venezuela (and I imagine in other places too), they were showing a soap opera called “La hija del Mariachi” (The Mariachi's Daughter), and although my mom obviously didn't let me watch soap operas, this was the exception. I loved the music, the “Plaza Garibaldi” bar, the instruments, the mariachis, and the heartbreaking despair with which they performed each song. That's where I learned many songs of the genre that I still listen to today. Let's just say I'm a girl with a broken heart, torn apart by love, ha ha ha.

Por allá entre 2007 y 2008 en Venezuela (y me imagino que en otras partes) pasaban una novela llamada "La hija del Mariachi" y, aunque mi mamá obviamente no me dejaba ver novelas, esta era la excepción, me encantaba la música, el bar “Plaza Garibaldi”, los instrumentos, los mariachis y ese despecho desgarrador con el que interpretaban cada canción. Ahí aprendí muchas canciones del género que hoy en día sigo escuchando, digamos que soy una muchacha con un alma de un corazón roto y desgarrado por el amor jajaja

Funny anecdote:

At that time, one of my favorite songs (actually, it still is) was Rata de Dos Patas by Paquita la del Barrio. So, at a karaoke party with my whole family (the Marcano family is very large, and we are also very festive), they made me sing that song. Imagine a 7-year-old girl singing karaoke to a song like that. A little crazy, right?

Anécdota cómica: en esa época de mis canciones favoritas (mentira, sigue siendo) era Rata de Dos Patas de Paquita la del barrio, por eso, en un karaoke con mi familia reunida (los Marcano somos mucha gente, y además, somos unos orientales muy fiesteros) me pusieron a cantar esa canción, imagínense a una niña haciendo karaoke de semejante canción a eso de los 7 años. ¿Un poco loco, no?

Anyway, those who know me know that I still listen to and love rancheras, that I'm dying to go to a bar in Mexico and live that experience live and in person, not through a screen. Here are some of my favorites:
