INTRODUCING MYSELF / Mi Presentación (ENG / ESP)

A cordial and affectionate greeting to this wonderful community, my name is Adolfo Ruiz, I was born in Caracas, Venezuela. I am Electrical Engineer, and at this writing, I am 55 years old.
I must confess that music is one of my great lifelong passions, so, I've decided to join this network of friends. I feel that I have found the perfect place to present my musical content.

How it started?

For as long as I can remember, I have felt an enormous attraction to the art of harmoniously combining sounds with letters. I remember that as a child my older brother Luis, by then a student at the University of Arizona (USA), would bring home a bunch of acetate records every year and play them on our old record player. Only music in English. I hummed that incessantly, and although I did not understand what they were saying, I enjoyed it very much. It was the late seventies, the golden age of rock was dying and disco music was making its way.
I would already have been about 12 years old, when I closed my eyes in my room and dreamed of belonging to one of those mega-bands, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, among many others. I remember that incredible feeling. Fascinating!
I was a teenager when I started with the guitar in a self-taught way. I spent hours and hours practicing. I confess that it was very difficult for me to interpret the songs, but even so, my love for music was growing. Interestingly, I don't have a family background in the artistic field, so it was even more difficult for me to connect with someone else to get some support, at least emotionally.
It was in college where I would meet some musician friends who invited me to join their band, I think due to the fact that I had my own electric guitar and amp, and had made them available to them a couple of times for performances. He, he!.
Anyway, we spent several months rehearsing songs by The Beatles, The Police, some by Queen and a few rock in Spanish. I remember that I ended up completely exhausted after each session, I could barely speak, but we had a great time. I would learn that this musical practice was really very, very demanding.
A year later I would leave the band to fully dedicate myself to my university career, which demanded more and more dedication and effort. It was the nineties.

Music quarantine

The years passed, and I graduated as an Electrical Engineer, got married, had two children, and kept myself totally devoted to the exercise of my profession, mainly in the area of ​​the Oil and Gas industry. Music for me was not even in the background. Although I sighed deeply from within every time I heard songs like Sultans of Swings by Dire Straits, Wish You Where Here by Pink Floyd, Bohemian Raphsody by Queen… to name a few.
More than two decades of musical abstinence would pass, practically, until one day I wanted to surprise some friends with a video in which I was joking with my children while playing and singing You've got to hide your love away, by Lennon. Well, the surprised one was me, after seeing the unexpected acceptance that this video had. This encouraged me, and I decided to do another cover, but this time for real. I chose the legendary song '39 by Brian May (Queen). It was good, I liked it. I decided to make new covers, and I started to practice intensely.

Beyond COVID

2020, I was making progress with my covers when COVID appeared. I tell you that the impact that the pandemic produced on me, its causes, its effects, all that confusion, was such that I set out to write my own musical themes from a positive perspective, within what this terrible globalized infection entailed.
At the beginning, my songs were related to the preservation of the environment, because as you will remember, as a result of the world quarantine, the planet had a period of "rest" from the polluting siege of man, due to the temporary closure of many factories and industries. In fact, the sky, the land and the seas received much less toxic waste and the biosphere in general was perceived as cleaner. Therefore, as you will remember, the fauna and flora manifested themselves in various areas where their presence was not usual. All those events started what was my muse then. I called this trend Alk-Rock (Alkaline Rock), since we were told that the COVID virus could not live in that type of environment.
The months passed and I expanded my source of inspiration. For example, for the present date, 2023, I have songs related to the urban theme, to life, to love, to human relations, to the psyche, among others. I have managed to include genres such as jazz, reagee, ska, ballad rock, rock and roll and blues in my repertoire, and I hope to continue advancing.

What is my project?

As I told you, I am an amateur musician, and what I have learned has been self-taught.
I love music, so my foray into this prestigious community responds to my need to make my musical content known, at the same time to obtain monetary funds that allow me to acquire more and better equipment for my music studio, and with this to improve substantially the quality of the musical production of my original songs. Therefore, I am going to give my all until I achieve my purpose, which I trust can be beneficial to everyone who accompanies me in this great musical challenge.

What is my mission?

At 55 years of age I want to launch this musical project hand in hand with you. I am resolved to strive to give the best of my creation, because I am absolutely sure that the success of this venture can also serve as an example to those people who, like me, have a dream to fulfill and have not dared to manifest it. perhaps due to lack of motivation, external support or due to certain fears that often end up immobilizing us. This is mainly for them.
It is clear to me that everyone has an important mission to fulfill in this life. We all have something or a lot to give to others. In addition to my professional contribution as an electrical engineer in my country, I feel that I can transmit a message of peace, optimism, joy and reflection to many people through my covers and mainly my original songs.
Finally, to all those talented people, young or old, creators who remain silent, I must tell you, pay attention to that love you feel for expressing your artistic creation and do everything you have to do in this life. Age should not prevent you from fulfilling your dream!
