Rock is a musical genre that is here to stay and still causes controversy today, but it has undoubtedly left a legacy of great songs that are still listened to years after their release, some of which are considered classics. I'm going to share some of my favorites.

Give It Away (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

This song belongs to the American alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which has undoubtedly always had a distinctive style. It is included on their fifth album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and was the lead single from that album in 1991. The music for this song was composed first by two members of the band, guitarist John Frusciante and bassist Flea, and months later the band's vocalist Anthony Kiedis wrote the lyrics.

Perhaps some people are unaware that several radio stations refused to play it because they considered it to have no melody, but it still gained international fame and was the band's first number one single.

The music video was broadcast on many channels, notably MTV, and contributed to the band's success. It is in black and white and shows the band members playing in the middle of what appears to be nowhere, covered in some kind of shiny paint.

Crazy (Aerosmith)

This song, written by Steven Tyler (the band's singer), Joe Perry, and Desmond Child, is one of the most famous ballads by the American hard rock band and is part of their 1993 album Get a Grip. Part of its success is attributed to its music video. Remember that during the 90s, MTV was one of the most watched channels by young people. We enjoyed watching the videos of the songs, and that helped them become more popular.

In addition to the band, the video also features two young girls who skip school and get up to all sorts of mischief. The stars of the video are Liv Tyler, the daughter of the band's lead singer, and actress Alicia Silverstone.

November Rain (Guns N' Roses)

This song, performed by the famous hard rock band Guns N' Roses, was composed by lead singer Axl Rose and included on the band's third album, Use Your Illusion I, which was released in 1992. Its music video, released in the same year, was one of the most famous and requested of 1992, and it won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography. It features a number of events that take you through a wedding and funeral story, as well as a live performance by the band playing the song with Axl Rose on piano.

According to Q Music magazine, the song ranked among the top five of the 1,000 best songs of all time, in addition to breaking records in terms of plays, not to mention that for many it includes one of the best guitar solos.

Nothing Else Matters (Metallica)

One of the most popular songs by American thrash metal band Metallica, like the previous two, is a power ballad. The band's vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield originally wrote the song for himself, but when the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich, heard it, he suggested including it on the band's next album.

Thus, in 1992, the song was included on the band's fifth album, titled Metallica (also known as the Black Album). This album has been the best-selling in the band's history. According to Q Music magazine, it ranks seventh among the 1,000 greatest songs of all time.

As for the video, it shows the band recording the song in the studio and doing other activities. The video clip premiered on MTV in 1992 and included parts of a documentary titled “A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica.”
