Hey, today I felt like telling you about some 2000s racing games, or more specifically, their soundtracks.

This is currently not going to be completely comprehensive in any way, but it will still certainly highlight a few of the games I have played before and had some songs that lived rent-free in my head since then, mainly licensed songs with how that was the era where they were most available.

Gran Turismo

There's a handful of songs that seem to only be really known about because of their inclusion in GT4, as while there isn't much traces of them online on their own, they undeniably are immortalized due to their presence here, such as that Let's Roll song.

OOH OOOH, OOOH OOH OOOH, IT'S TIME TO ROLLL, PUT YOUR PEDAL TO THE FLOOOR

Some of their unique remixes are also incredible, like James Brown's Call Me Super Bad (Pop Rox) and Getting Away with Murder (Vrenna Walsh), energizing the original songs with a different vibe and a faster pace fitting to some road burning with your hard-earned car.

There's also the handful of original songs made for the game by Daiki Kasho, who has kept composing a few more tunes for other GT games and even had some input with a few character themes in F-Zero GX.

Interestingly, I also had accidentally discovered a few other gems of tracks because I had played the PAL version for a bit and that included a few exclusive songs like The Infadels's Can't Get Enough.

There's also some hits in both old GT and new GT. On one hand, while GT2's American sountrack is pretty limited in quantity, at least two of the songs are likely to stick with you such as Apollo 440's Cold Rock the Mic, and a remix of Rob Zombie's Dragula.

The presence of Dragula at this point is kind of legendary to me because, while I only found out it was in Twisted Metal 4 and Sled Storm through comments, my jaw dropped when I heard this for the first time in Gran Turismo 2 after associating it to the opener for Jet Set Radio's Bantam City stage.

On the other hand, Gran Turismo on the PSP had a few nice songs for me, such as MSTRKRFT's Fist of God, The Prodigy's Omen [Noisia Remix], and the highlight for me being The Qemists's On The Run. I had heard Zardonic's Takeover from a PMEX Remix trailer [which features The Qemists too] but this was the first time I heard a standalone song of theirs.

And even more incredibly, while the in-game version is instrumental, I had got really hooked to the original version with vocals that I got sent to.

Honorable Mention to this GT7 song, as I was looking if the game also had licensed songs...and as I picked this one for the sake of curiosity, I got hit with a Ridge Racer-tier banger. There's probably even more gold hidden in there, but I also could recognize a handful of songs from Daiki Kasho that had been made for previous entries.

Need for Speed

I might have grown up at first with Carbon, but the one I actually played from start to end for the first time was the old NFS Most Wanted.

And most of you probably don't need anything else to remind you about its soundtrack.

While I have yet to play NFS Underground 2 to have a full taste of its music, although I can take it for granted that it will also be good when I found out it has Mudvayne's Determined, Most Wanted's soundtrack is as legendary of a selection as the game itself.

Paul Linford and Chris Vrenna creating two original soundtracks to fit with the insane police chases you will partake as you play the game is already a lot of commitment, but you'd be surprised on how the mix of rock songs and rap beats between menus and races fit like a glove to the gritty streets you'll burn rubber at.

On a tight time attack? You Must Follow.

On a head to head race with that rival that has forced you to retry many times? SHAAAAAPE SHIFTEEEEEEEEER

Coasting on the open world for a challenge or to mess around? You'll Be Under My Wheels.

Taking that final race to take back your coveted BMW from Razor? Hands of Blood.

...Going to spend the rest of the day tuning your car to your liking?

GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD! LET'S MOVE!!

There's so much to pick from that its difficult to go over everything in Most Wanted alone, without bringing up other games from that era. But I think that my duty in this section is more than done.

Honorable mention to FIFA Street 2; it is only related to NFS as another EA franchise, but whoever was in charge of handpicking the songs for some frantic street soccer must have been Gordon Ramsay, because they cooked.

And don't skip over the music in the first FIFA Street either- I gave it a listen as well and turns out they had that spirit in it since the beginning.

Burnout

Kinda crazy that Franz Ferdinand's This Fire, which would be known as Cyberpunk Edgerunners's opening theme, had already been beloved by people before...as its first version featured in Burnout 3.

It is a slightly slower paced version, but you are not immune to shouting THIS FIRE IS OUT OF CONTROL, GONNA BURN THE CITY, BURN THE CITYYYYYY when that song rolls out.

Another personal favorite of mine is The Mooney Suzuki's Shake that Bush Again with how it just fits for the speed trip that is boosting and taking down vehicles at a million kilometers per hour.

In a similar case to what happened with NFS, there's definitely a handful more of Burnout 3 songs that while I don't remember the names off the top of my head, I can certainly be ready to enjoy while wrecking the streets in the moment they play and can recognize them.

Shoutouts to Burnout Revenge's soundtrack, which while I haven't got to play, it also featured in Burnout Legends which I definitely did play a lot, and even had a personal throwback for me in the form of Tsar - Band Girls Money.

That song was one of the handful that came preloaded with the original versions of the Xbox 360. I had one of those, and I listened to it alongside Skindred - Pressure so many times [that other song is NOT in Burnout...but hey, wanted to bring it up], so to hear it again in Legends was an immediate flashback.

This was an idea that came from the moment when I got suddenly inspired while listening to some of these songs, but I hope that it does give some of you some great memories of these classics...and in the case you somehow haven't played or listened to some of these tunes before, that you enjoy these new findings!

Hola, hoy me apetecía hablaros de algunos juegos de carreras de los 2000, o más concretamente, de sus bandas sonoras.

Y lo que es más increíble, aunque la versión del juego es instrumental, me había enganchado mucho a la versión original con voces que me enviaron.

Mención honorífica a esta canción de GT7, ya que estaba mirando si el juego también tenía canciones con licencia... y al elegir esta por curiosidad, me encontré con un temazo del nivel de Ridge Racer. Probablemente haya más oro escondido ahí, pero también pude reconocer un puñado de canciones de Daiki Kasho que se habían hecho para entradas anteriores.

Need for Speed

Puede que al principio creciera con Carbon, pero al que realmente jugué de principio a fin por primera vez fue al viejo NFS Most Wanted.

Burnout

Es un poco loco que Franz Ferdinand's This Fire, que se conocería como el tema de apertura de Cyberpunk Edgerunners, ya fuera querido por la gente antes... ya que su primera versión apareció en Burnout 3.

Es una versión un poco más lenta, pero no te librarás de gritar THIS FIRE IS OUT OF CONTROL, GONNA BURN THE CITY, BURN THE CITYYYYYY cuando suene esta canción.

Otra de mis favoritas es The Mooney Suzuki's Shake that Bush Again, que encaja a la perfección con el viaje a toda velocidad que supone impulsar y derribar vehículos a un millón de kilómetros por hora.

En un caso similar a lo que ocurrió con NFS, hay sin duda un puñado más de canciones de Burnout 3 que, aunque no recuerdo los nombres de memoria, sin duda puedo estar listo para disfrutar mientras destrozo las calles en el momento en que suenen y pueda reconocerlas.

Un saludo a la banda sonora de Burnout Revenge, a la que no he jugado, pero que también aparecía en Burnout Legends, al que sin duda jugué mucho, e incluso tenía un recuerdo personal en forma de Tsar - Band Girls Money.

Esa canción era una de las pocas que venían precargadas con las versiones originales de la Xbox 360.
