My Cuban music collection (Part one)

cover.jpg

Talking about music for me is more than just listening to a song. It is to manipulate analogical supports, like an open reel to reel magnetic tape, a vinyl record, a cassette, up to the compact disc as a digital format.

Today I want to share with you, part of my collection of CDs of Cuban music. That music with rhythm, that invites to dance, to move the bodies, or simply to enjoy a few glasses of wine next to an interesting company.
So I present to you some of them:

Inti Santana (Mundo paripé) 2012

The music of this singer who likes biology, in this project which was his first album recorded in studio, discovers rhythms reminiscent of Afro-American and Brazilian sounds. Album that in 2014, won two nominations: best recording and Nueva Trova album.

Pablo Milanés (Canción de Otoño) 2014

When talking about the Nueva Trova, there are several names that are its foundations, and one of them is our beloved Pablo. Although he is no longer with us, he left a wide legacy with the melody of his songs and those lyrics that have known how to crackle in the Cuban people.

In this album, he interprets songs by pianist José María Vitier, to add the seal of his melody.

Omara Portuondo (Magia Negra) 2014

Here we have the Diva of bolero and son, who has been a key figure in the project Buena Vista Social Club. She is also known for her melodious voice and for being one of the most important figures of the feeling in our country.

This CD is a new version of an album she made 56 years before. It also includes a DVD.

P1070147.JPG

Aldo López-Gavilán (Más allá del ocaso) 2011

With his piano and his mastery in composing, this 44 year old musician has been part of many musical projects, inside and outside the country. This CD with its DVD, is very enjoyable for those who like to see and feel the mastery of an artist with her piano and the accompaniment of an orchestra.

Pablo Milanés y José María Vitier (Flor oculta de la Vieja Trova) 2018

A cocktail of troubadours' songs are condensed in this 18-song phonogram, where Pablo delights us with his voice and Vitier at the piano. Some of these troubadours are well known and others, less heard, inspired Pablo to oxygenate his songs.

David Blanco (La Evolución) 2008

P1070151.JPG

Ruly Herrera (Mal Tiempo) 2014

Composer and instrumentalist, who composes his Jazz songs from his favorite instrument, the piano.

Ritmos y tradiciones (2010)

Rhythms and Traditions is a phonogram that compiles 12 themes of popular dance music. Inside the CD we find in its label, a map of the tourist centers and hotels of the Varadero beach resort, located in Matanzas province.

P1070154.JPG

Albita Rodríguez. Locura. El espectador

She is a composer who has been able to bring to the forefront popular country songs and the son, from different nuances.

Xiomara Laugart (Como algo que quema) 1993

A charismatic singer on stage, who gives us a style that navigates through the bolero, son and guaracha. Her voice with good tone, agglutinates in this disc, diverse songs of Cuban authors.

P1070153.JPG

Elito Revé y su Charangón (Yo me muero en la Habana) 2017

With its popular music, it invites you to dance and move your skeleton.

David Torrens (Razones) 2009

Another author who is included in the Cuban trova, in its third generation.

P1070155.JPG

Adrián Berazaín (Como los locos) 2011

A young graphic designer who devoted himself to music. He likes with his guitar to give us songs with a real message of the actuality of our days.

Son x 4 (2003)

Quartet integrated by women and men, and that through the percussion of their instruments, they show us themes of other musicians, in this project that was their first album.

P1070152.JPG

El Greco y Top Secret (Esto es mi mecánica) 2008

Carlos Varela (No es el fin) 2009

P1070169.JPG

P1070170.JPG

I left for the end of this first part Carlos Varela, a singer who touches the heart of the Cuban people with the content of his lyrics. He shows us the reality of that Cuba full of contrasts, of mixed feelings, of broken hopes, of the separation of families before a growing emigration, where the pain, the uprooting, the living outside your homeland, and the decadence of the city with the passage of time, make that listening to his songs, leads us to reflection.

Every Cuban who loves his native country is filled with nostalgia and his eyes are bathed in tears, especially when he lives abroad or when he visits his native land after several years.

If a song condenses the essence of my words, that song is Habáname. It is not part of this CD presented, but of the album Como los Peces from 1994.

I hope you liked the post. Thanks to those who read it.

Believe me or not, I was thinking these days about CD collections 😁
But I left many to my niece, well, all of them, when I moved. Now I have just one classical music collection, in one box (a set)...

Thank you for bringing your collection of Cuban music, gracias!

Hi @mipiano. At least your CD gift stayed in the family. You have your collection of in that classical music set and I know you like it a lot.
Cuban music is very popular and many tourists come to Cuba to perfect their dancing. However, I am more of a listener than a dancer. My regards

Wow that David Blanco song was an absolute masterpiece, though I have no idea what the lyrics were, but it was beautiful and poignant and heartwarming and just wonderful.

I wanted to be there with everyone, hugging and singing and this bought happy tears to my eyes.

Infact the whole production was just tremendous!

Thank you for introducing me to him!

Infact if you have any more of your favourite music to share with the rest of the world, @ablaze runs a weekly #TTT- Three Tunes Tuesday in the music communitywhere we share our faves and meet others faves from around the world so it is a great community to add to your playllist.

And these one's I'll definitely be adding to my spotify playlist and dancing to some of them in the morning I'm sure.

Oh I didn't just like it- I LOVED it and as I said, I don't even know what the lyrics are- Hablo muy POCO POCO Español...HOWEVER, I do believe that it may have been a patriotic song about Cubans coming home?

It is a song about love for one's family, for the land where one was born, for the values one defended, for the reunion with family and friends who emigrated and are now coming back, etc.
