Kiss, one of America's most iconic rock bands, will give their last concert in December. They will do it in New York, the same place where 50 years ago they began their career.

Today I would like to toast with a few glasses of wine, to thank them for the musical and artistic legacy, which they have tattooed since 1973 in the history of Rock.

Currently, the band is on their latest tour called End of the Roud. Started in 2019, but due to the pandemic for COVID-19 it was delayed.
They wish to finish their last performance, in December this year, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

I will share with you my favorite collection of their discography. I will only exhibit the original materials that I have been able to acquire, both in CD, DVD and Vinyl Disc format.

Kiss: un legado en la historia del rock

Kiss, una de las bandas más icónicas del rock estadounidense, en diciembre finalizará su último concierto de su historia. Lo hará en New York, el mismo lugar donde hace 50 años iniciaron su carrera.

Hoy deseo brindar unas copas de vino, para agradecer el legado musical y artístico, que han tatuado desde 1973 en la historia del Rock.

En la actualidad, la banda se encuentra en su última gira llamada End of the Roud. Iniciada en 2019, pero por causa de la pandemia por COVID-19 se atrasó.
Desean finalizar su última presentación, en diciembre del presente año, en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York.

Les compartiré mi colección preferida de su discografía. Solo expondré los materiales originales que he podido comprar, tanto en formato CD, DVD como en Disco de vinilo.

How did I meet this group?

I spent my high school and pre-university, on scholarship at the well-known school La Lenin, located in Havana, from 1977 to 1983. At that time, listening, speaking or wearing anything related to English-speaking countries was considered ideological diversionism in my country.

And among the British and American musical groups, you can imagine which ones topped the blacklist: The Beatles and Kiss.

Alejandro, a friend of mine from high school, had several Kiss albums at home. His love for that band infected that group of young people who, living from Monday to Saturday in that famous school, and far from their parents, wanted to get to know another rock band, which was not only listening to Cuban authors.

So we managed to sneak in, get to know and enjoy the music of this group, which Alejandro recorded for us on cassettes.

I remember that after 11 p.m., we would get out of our beds like weasels to the bathroom, located at the back of each block of rooms. There we would pull out a hidden tape recorder, like that forbidden treasure, to listen to the songs and hits of the most extravagant band of the moment.

Songs like Detroit rock city, Beth, I was made for lovin' you, Rock and roll all night, among others, were buried in our conscience, awakening emotions and forging brotherhood.

¿Cómo conocí a este grupo?

Pasé mi secundaria y preuniversitario, becado en la conocida escuela La Lenin, ubicada en la Habana, desde 1977 a 1983. En ese tiempo, escuchar, hablar o portar algo que tuviese relación con países de habla Inglesa, era considerado diversionismo ideológico en mi país.

Y dentro de los grupos musicales británicos y americanos, ya se imaginarán cuáles encabezaban la lista negra: The Beatles y Kiss.

Alejandro, un amigo de cursos superiores, tenía en casa varios discos de Kiss. Su gusto por esa banda, contagió a ese grupo de jóvenes que estando viviendo de lunes a sábado en esa afamada escuela, y lejos de sus padres, querían abrirse a conocer otra banda de rock, que no fuese solo escuchar a autores cubanos.

Así que logramos a escondidas, poder entrar, conocer y disfrutar la música de este grupo, que Alejandro nos grabó en casetes.

Recuerdo que después de las 11 p.m, salíamos de nuestras camas como comadrejas hacia el baño, Ubicado al fondo de cada bloque de cuartos. Ahí sacábamos una grabadora escondida, como ese tesoro prohibido, para escuchar las canciones y hits de la banda más extravagante del momento.

Canciones como Detroit rock city, Beth, I was made for lovin' you, Rock and roll all night, entre otras, quedaron sepultadas en nuestra conciencia, despertando emociones y forjando la hermandad.

What characterizes Kiss?

The musical genre of the band is Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Its original members are the bassist Gene Simmons, its creator; Paul Stanley as the lead vocalist and guitar, Peter Criss on drums and Ace Frehley also on guitar.

What most identifies this group, is their unique stage presence in their explosive shows that make you energize your body. For many years they used their make-up and different costumes, which differentiated them from the rest of the existing groups.
If a group has known how to position at the top, their personal brand and their logo, it has been Kiss.

Throughout their great career, they have 24 studio albums, 14 compilations and 8 books. They have sold over 75 million records, and won many Awards and Nominations.

El género musical de la banda lo podemos englobar dentro del Hard Rock y el Heavy Metal. Sus integrantes originales son el bajista Gene Simmons, su creador; Paul Stanley como el vocalista principal y guitarra, Peter Criss a la batería y Ace Frehley también en la guitarra.

Lo que más identifica a este grupo, es su singularidad escénica en sus shows explosivos que te hacen energizar el cuerpo. Por muchos años usaron sus maquillajes y distintos vestuarios, que lo diferenciaron del resto de las agrupaciones existentes.
Si un grupo ha sabido posicionar al tope, su marca personal y su logo, ha sido Kiss.

A lo largo de su gran trayectoria, tienen 24 álbumes de estudio, 14 en recopilaciones y 8 libros. Han vendido más de 75 millones de discos, y ganado muchos Premios y Nominaciones.

Alive II

Alive II was their second live album, manufactured and distributed in 1977 by the Casablanca label.

This double album has been one of the best sellers, earning the double platinum certificate in February 1996, by selling more than 1,000,000 copies of records.

Alive II fue su segundo álbum en vivo, manufacturado y distribuido en 1977 por la discográfica Casablanca.

Este álbum doble ha sido uno de los más vendidos, ganando el certificado doble platino en febrero de 1996, al vender más de 1.000.000 copias de discos.

Double Platinum

It was their first compilation album, released in 1978, and my favorite of its kind. It achieved platinum record certification and comes with 2 CDs of 10 songs each.

Fue su primer album recopilatorio, lanzado en 1978, y mi preferido dentro de su tipo. Logró la certificación de disco de platino, y viene con 2 CD de 10 canciones cada uno.

Dynasty

The two albums you will see below, are the most pop rock they made in their career, and I personally love them.

Dynasty, from 1979, was their seventh studio album, after their 4 solo works. Here we have hits like: I was made for loving you and Sure know something that marked strongly in the memory of their fans.

Los dos discos que verán a continuación, son los más pop rock que hicieron en su carrera, y en lo personal me encantan.

Dynasty, de 1979, fue su séptimo álbum de estudio, tras sus 4 trabajos en solitario. Aquí tenemos hits como: I was made for loving you y Sure know something que marcaron con fuerza en la memoria de sus seguidores.

An album that I liked a lot. Its cover shows the made-up faces of its 4 members. That motivated me years ago to paint my son Favio with the makeup of Peter Criss, drummer of the band and popularly known as the Catman.

Un álbum que me gustó mucho. Su portada muestra las caras maquilladas de sus 4 integrantes. Eso me motivó hace años a pintar a mi hijo Favio con el maquillaje de Peter Criss, batería de la banda y popularmente conocido como el Hombre Gato.

Unmasked

It was the other studio album they released in 1980, with well-liked tracks such as: Shandi and Naked City.

Fue el otro disco de estudio que lanzaron en 1980, con temas que gustaron mucho como: Shandi y Naked City.

Lick it up

In this 1983 album, Ace Frehley was no longer on guitar, taking his position Vinnie Vincent.

It has as peculiarity, that it was in this eleventh studio album, where the group appears on the cover of his record, without their usual makeup.
My favorite song of the album, is precisely the name of this project: Lick it up.

En este disco de 1983, ya no se contó con Ace Frehley en la guitarra, tomando su posición Vinnie Vincent.

Tiene como peculiaridad, que fue en este undécimo álbum de estudio, donde aparece el grupo en la portada de su disco, sin sus maquillajes habituales.
Mi canción preferida del disco, es precisamente el nombre de este proyecto: Lick it up.

Unplugged

In 1996, the band did an "Unplugged" type performance, showing an acoustic edge to their songs.

It is a concert that was also released on DVD and considered historic, because Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, original members who were no longer in the band since 1980, were invited to play.

En 1996, la banda hizo una actuación de tipo "Unplugged", mostrando un toque acústico en sus canciones.

Se trata de un concierto que también fue editado en DVD y considerado histórico, ya que Peter Criss y Ace Frehley, miembros originales que ya no formaban parte de la banda desde 1980, fueron invitados a tocar.

KISS Symmphony

Kiss Symphony: Alive IV is a gem released in 2003 that shines with contrasts. With the famed Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, joining their symphony to the songs and pyrotechnic show of Kiss. They showed us a spectacular night of rock and symphonic metal.

A show that I really enjoy every time I see it. The cover design of these two DVDs is quite an art. With raised lettering and a logo, and in the center a shield where we see an electric guitar next to a cello, representing the fusion of a rock band with a symphonic orchestra.
The rest of the material shows the beautiful fused work, thanks to the direction of David Campbell in front of the orchestra.

Kiss Symphony: Alive IV es una joya que salió en el 2003, y que brilla con sus contrastes. Tener a la afamada Orquesta Sinfónica de Melbourne, uniendo su sinfonía, a las canciones y al espectáculo pirotécnico de Kiss. Nos mostraron una noche espectacular de metal y rock sinfónico.

Un show que disfruto mucho cada vez que lo veo. El diseño de la cubierta del estos dos DVD es un arte. Con letras y un logo a relieve, y en el centro un escudo donde vemos a una guitarra eléctrica junto a un chelo, representando la fusión de un grupo de rock con una orquesta sinfónica.
El resto del material, exhibe el hermoso trabajo fusionado, gracias a la dirección de David Campbell liderando la orquesta.

Watching this show transports us to a magical moment, where the most relevant songs of this rock group that has made history are condensed.

The concert was joined by a beautiful children's choir, who together with the members of the Australian orchestra, were made up in Kiss style.

In their final song, Rock and roll all night, we see Paul Stanley smashing his guitar against the floor; and you perceive with intensity, the adrenaline and emotion, infecting with strength to each one of those present, to close the show with that great scenic protagonism typical of Kiss.

Ver este espectáculo nos transporta a un momento mágico, donde se condensan las canciones más relevantes de este grupo de rock que ha sabido marcar historia.

Se sumó al concierto, un bello coro de niños, que junto a los miembros de la orquesta australiana, estaban maquillados al estilo Kiss.

En su canción final, Rock and roll all night, vemos a Paul Stanley romper su guitarra contra el piso; y percibes con intensidad, la adrenalina y la emoción, contagiando con fuerzas a cada uno de los presentes, para cerrar el show con ese gran protagonismo escénico típico de Kiss.
